HOUSTON COUNTY: Former Houston County Probate Judge Cletus Yeomans was laid to rest today in Tennessee. Sources say that Mr. Yeomans was age 92.
After suffering a major stroke, sources say that he was moved to Tennessee with his children.
Cletus Yeomans was once a weatherman with WTVY. In 1998 he sought election as Houston County Probate Judge, as a Republican. Yeomans was challenged in the election by Rickey Stokes ( me!). Yeomans and Stokes were the only two seeking election as Probate Judge in Houston County on the Republican ticket. In the primary election we tied the exact number of votes. In the run off election Yeomans won over Stokes.
The Democratic ticket had a number of people seeking election for Probate Judge. Two of the candidates for the Democratic nominee for Probate Judge were Alva Lambert and Luke Cooley. Lambert won the democratic nominee.
Yeomans and Lambert faced each other in the general election. Yeomans won over Lambert and was elected as Houston County Probate Judge.
After serving one term Luke Cooley challenged Cletus Yeomans on the Republican ticket for Probate Judge. Cooley won over Yeomans and Luke Cooley then became Probate Judge.
Cletus Yeomans, who lived in Madrid, then lived a quiet and peaceful life until his stroke earlier this year.
