MOBILE COUNTY AL: Four-term Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran said Tuesday he will not seek a fifth term in office, and will retire next January.
Cochran, 67, will wrap a 48-year law enforcement career after the 2022 elections. He is backing his longtime Captain Paul Burch for sheriff ahead of the May 24 primary. Candidates have until January 28 to file for office during this year’s elections.
“I tell people that I’ll be 68 and 48 at the end of this year,” Cochran said, referring to his age and longevity in law enforcement. “I’m not burned out or anything. But to do four more years? It’s time for others to take the reins. It’s time for me to do other things when I retire.”
