Free Skin Cancer Screenings on Friday, May 19

Dermatology Specialists of Alabama is offering free skin care screenings on Friday, May 19th, due to this month being Skin Cancer Awareness Month.


Anyone age 18 and older may get the free screening, but they must also not have been scanned or checked for skin cancer in the last 12 months.


According to Tiffany Wimsatt, a physician assistant at Dermatology Specialists of Alabama in Huntsville, the average patient does not visit the doctor until they notice a problem or someone they know is dealing with cancer.


". . .The skin is our largest organ, and with that it needs to be monitored. We don't just have skin cancer on the areas that are easily visible," Wimsatt said.


Skin cancer is highly curable if it is detected and treated early.


The Dothan and Auburn clinics of Dermatology Specialists of Alabama are offering screenings on Friday. Patients must book an appointment first in order to be screened.
