Headland Police Captain Assaulted This Morning - Transported To Hospital - Suspect Arrested

HEADLAND:    Early this morning a man came into the Headland Police Department. Headland Police Captain Scott Langley dealt with the suspect and he left.


In a few minutes Headland Police Department received a call of a disorderly person at Sun Valley at County Road 99 and Highway 431.


Headland Police Captain Scott Langley responded. Langley talked to the suspect and got him outside the store.


The suspect became disorderly, pulled his shirt off becoming more disorderly. The suspect attempted to assault the Captain which forced the Captain to taze the person. The suspect pulled the tazer prongs and struck the Captain. Not sure if he struck the Captain prior to the first taze or not.


Multiple Headland Police Officers were called and responded to the scene. The suspect attempted to flee the scene. The suspect was taken into custody across the street from the store near or at the Citgo.


The suspect, Joseph Sorrells was taken into custody by Headland Police.


Headland Fire - Rescue responded to the Sun Valley to treat the Police Captain. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.


The suspect was transported to Headland Police headquarters. Headland Fire - Rescue was called to the headquarters to check the suspect out. Afterwards the suspect will be transported to the Henry County Courthouse for intial appearance and then placed in the Henry County Jail on multiple charges to include assault on a police officer.


Last Sunday in Dothan two Dothan Police Officers were assaulted. One suffered a broke leg and one a broke hand. This assault was the result of a person police were called to that became violent.


Dangerous days on the streets all over. The events of injuries to law enforcement is not something that just happens in far away places but happens right here. In less than 7 days three officers in two different places received injuries from persons they were dealing with.


Headland Police Captain Scott Langley is expected to be released after being treated for his injuries.
