BOTTOM LINE: Heavy rain over the next two days will likely lead to localized flash flooding, especially in poor drainage and urban environments. A Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) of Excessive Rain is forecast for most of southeast AL, southwest GA, the FL Big Bend, and along and north of I-10 in the western FL Panhandle. Tomorrow a Marginal Risk of Excessive Rain is forecast for the majority of the service area. A Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for severe weather is also forecast on Monday for much of the region.
Overview: Much of the region has already seen 1-2 inches of rain already, with locally higher amounts of 3-6 inches being observed in southeast AL, the far western FL Panhandle, and right over Grady, Thomas, east Gadsden, and north Leon counties. The threat for heavy rain will continue today (Sunday) and tomorrow (Monday) with an additional 2-3 inches of rain. Storms will likely be slow moving or training (re-developing over the same region), which could lead to locally higher amounts, perhaps up to 5 inches. As a result a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) of Excessive Rain is forecast for most of southeast AL, southwest GA, the FL Big Bend, and along and north of I-10 in the western FL Panhandle today and again for much of the region tomorrow. Should the higher amounts of rain be realized, we could see totals for the next two days closer to 3-6 inches.
In terms of severe weather, a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) is forecast on Monday for much of the region. A front is expected to move through, which may provide enough momentum to produce damaging winds and frequent lightning.
