HENRY COUNTY: This morning around 9 AM Henry County Central 911 dispatched Henry County Sheriff Deputies, Shorterville Volunteer Fire Department, Haleburg Volunteer Fire Department, Abbeville Fire Department and Abbeville Rescue to a structure fire.
The fire location was Henry County Road 65 just south of the Highway 95 intersection.
A brick house. The fire appeared to have started in a front bedroom. The house was occupied and there was on fatality.
UNOFFICIALLY from citizens, the dad was in the kitchen and the daughter, older and not a teenager went to her room. The dad smelled smoke and went to the bedroom. The door was locked and he could feel the heat. The dad got something and forced the door open. The bed was on fire.
Unable to get her from the bed until fire units arrived. The female victim was removed and attempts to save her was unsuccessful.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by Henry County Coroner Derek Wright.
The Alabama State Fire Marshall's Office was notified and responded to the scene. The Fire Marshall, Henry County Sheriff Department and Henry County Coroner's Office are investigating.
The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences will exam the body and conduct an autopsy.
