HOLMAS COUNTY: On July 10, 2021, deputies responded to an address on Bull Rd. with Department of Children and Families (DCF) in refence to an abuse case out of Walton County involving Eric Merriweather, from Crestview. While DCF was speaking to children deputies learned that Merriweather was a registered sex offender out of Okaloosa County.
Through talking to Merriweather and other occupants of the residence it was learned that Merriweather had been living at this address for a couple months and he had not registered with the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office as a sex offender.
Deputies advised Merriweather that he was under arrest and went to cuff him when he fled on foot. Deputies gave chase, however lost him in the woods. K9 teams from Holmes and Walton CI responded and began tracking him until they lost the track. Merriweather was located several hours later hiding back at the residence on Bull Rd. and he was taken into custody without incident. Merriweather was charged with failure to register and escape. The abuse case is still on going.
