HOUSTON COUNTY: The Houston County Commissioners, absent of D-2 Commissioner Doug Sinquefield, voted on Thursday to move forward with the purchase of the Five Star Credit Union Building on North Foster Street.
The purchase price for the building is $ 2.2 million dollars. Five Star Credit Union has offered to Houston County to finance the building for 15 years.
The Houston County Commission has plans to love the Houston County Sheriff Department from next door to the Courthouse to the old Five Star building. Then move State of Alabama Pardons and Probation to the current Sheriff Department.
THIS IS NOT A WISE INVESTMENT
There is no where for the Sheriff Department to move to. Recently at 9:15 AM there were 31 cars parked behind the current Houston County Sheriff Department. The new Five Star parking lot has 43 or so parking places with 8 on the street.
Houston County owns the Houston County Farm Center. There are two large buildings, with air conditioner systems, and can easily have walls stood up and made into a spectacular Sheriff's Office. With room to grow. Along with that, Houston County could construct a warehouse for the Sheriff Department and Emergency Management.
But the use of the Farm Center makes common sense. And that is not a quality of most of those on the Houston County Commission.
Unless you the voting public stand up and say NO... you will have wasted $ 2.2 million dollars by the Houston County Commission.
