DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY:     This past week in the 20th Judicial Circuit - Houston County was criminal jury trials.

The 20th Judicial Circuit is comprised of Houston and Henry County. The Circuit Judges are the same in Houston and Henry County; Judge Larry Anderson, Judge John John Steensland, Judge Kevin Moulton, Judge Butch Binford, Judge Todd Derrick.

Henry County has a District Judge that serves only Henry County, Derrick Peterson.

Houston County has two District Judges that serves only Houston County, Benjamin Lewis and Lori Collier Ingram.

The District Attorney, Pat Jones, serves the 20th Judicial Circuit. Again both Houston and Henry County. The Honorable Sam Clenny serves where his primary office is in Abbeville.

One case tried in the 20th Judicial Circuit - Houston County was State of Alabama verses Brandon Bell.

Bell was arrested on May 24, 2018 and charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Discharging a Gun Into an Occupied Vehicle.

The Honorable Shaun McGhee, Defense Attorney, represented Brandon Bell on these two charges.

The case was presented before a jury of 12 this week in court.

The two offenses occurred on separate dates. The State of Alabama made the request to have a trial on both cases at the same time rather than separate trials.

After the case testimony was presented by both the State of Alabama and defendant the case went to the jury of 12 peers.

After a 9 minute deliberation of the jury they returned a unanimous verdict of NOT GUILTY.

Defense Attorney Shaun McGhee got four not guilty verdicts in the only four cases he tried in Circuit Court this week.

What makes life interesting for attorneys and for Shaun McGhee is...four cases tried by juries of 12 this week.

McGhee kicks off more trials in other cases on Monday in Dale County.

McGhee practices in the law firm with SMITH and McGhee with Tom Smith and Scott Smith. The firm is located at 211 West Main Street - Suite 1 - Dothan Alabama. The office number is 334-702-1744.
