Thanksgiving dinner is expected to cost less than last year, but those prices won’t be as low as they were before the pandemic.
The American Farm Bureau Federation’s dinner survey predicts an average cost of $58.08 to feed 10 people.
But that’s if you don’t buy ham, Russet potatoes, or green beans.
With those Southern favorites, the average price jumps up to $77.34.
This is a 5% decrease from 2023, which was 4.5% lower than 2022.
But Thanksgiving is still 19% higher than it was in 2019.
Turkey costs contributed to a lower estimated average Thanksgiving dinner; it’s 6% cheaper this year, despite bird flu affecting a portion of turkey inventories. Americans are also eating one pound less of turkey per year.
Some processed foods like dinner rolls are selling for 8% more than a year ago. Fresh cranberries have climbed 12% in price.
Sweet potatoes and whole milk saw significant price drops.
Buying store-brands can get you cheaper prices.
Prices in the South are touting a lower overall price in the country; Western households will spend 18% more on average than Southern households.
