DOTHAN: This article is written with about 60 minutes left until Dothan Police Captain Todd David is officially retired Dothan Police Captain Todd David.
This morning I met with Captain David as he was leaving at lunch. We were in his office which was bare as today was his last official day.
With 29 years of law enforcement under his belt, 25 of which has been spent with Dothan Police Department, he and his wife Racheal made the decision last year when he would retired. And the day has come.
LET ME BE CLEAR, Captain David and his wife Dothan Police Lieutenant Racheal David made the decision last year, that when Todd made 25 years with Dothan he was going to retire. Then Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish all of a sudden announced his retirement and Major Will Benny was selected Dothan Police Chief. Captain David expressed great respect for both retired Chief of Police Steve Parrish and now Chief of Police Will Benny. Those changes did not make his decision. Captain David said Dothan is in good hands with Chief Benny.
Todd David's path in law enforcement began as a Midland City Police Officer. He left Midland City and came to Dothan Police Department. During is tenure at Midland City is where I first had the opportunity to meet him.
From day one Todd David has been a dedicated law enforcement officer. He has always treated people with dignity and respect, expected professionalism from the officers and respect to the citizens.
The past seven years as Captain he has commanded the Patrol Division. Captain David would be out at all times of the day and night. Sometimes just riding and looking and sometimes you would hear him on the radio. He had the safety of the residents and guests of Dothan in mind, but he was also always concerned in making sure every officer went home to their family.
Captain David and his wife Racheal have two sons. And it is time to focus more on them. After 30 days Captain David will return part time working as a School Safety Officer. So he will be involved in the future, part time and without the management command responsibility.
THANK YOU to Todd David. He moved through the ranks from a patrolman, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and then Captain.
At the ending of the interview I asked Captain David a question like what are you proud that you have been able to accomplish. His answer was that he has not accomplished, but as a team they have accomplished. That is his style, a team approach, not I ... but we!
Best Wishes Captain.
