DALE COUNTY: The 72 hour hearing required by Alabama Law was heard before Dale County District Court Judge Stanley Garner in the case, State of Alabama verses Kimberly Sonanstine.
The 72 hour hearing is to advise a defendant who has not made bond of their rights, what the charges alleged, the range of punishment for the crimes alleged.
An additional purpose is to appoint legal counsel to represent the defendant if they can not afford to employ an attorney.
Today Judge Garner decided that Sonanstine qualified for court appointed attorneys. Judge Garner appointed two attorneys.
The Alabama Unified Judicial System is anything but unified. Some counties will set bonds and some will set bond hearings.
Judge Garner set bonds today in the amount of $ 500,000.00.
We do not know the details but information at this time indicate the allegations occurred several years ago.
This case was investigated by ALEA- State Bureau of Investigation.
