Inmate Charged with Battery on Law Enforcement after Crabbing Detention Depute by the Throat in Walton County

WALTON COUNTY: Over the weekend, detention deputies at the Walton County Jail attempted to place Sherry Underwood, 47, of DeFuniak Springs back into her cell.


When deputies got close to Underwood, she raised her hand like she was going to strike a female detention deputy. Underwood only lowered her hand when a male deputy stepped between them.



While the male detention deputy was talking to her, Underwood grabbed him by the throat with both hands and the two fell to the ground.



Underwood was secured and placed back into her cell by other detention deputies. She was charged with battery on detention staff.



The men and women working at the Walton County Jail face difficult situations every single day.



They continue to demonstrate professionalism in their approach to those incarcerated at our facility and in the way they conduct themselves in the course of their work.
