JACKSON COUNTY, FLORIDA:           According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, they have received multiple reports recently of locals getting scammed out of thousands of dollars by people online.

They list the following as red flags to watch out for when doing business online:

-Someone tells you that you won a giveaway, gift, or money and asks for your banking information

-Someone you don't know asks you to wire them money online

-Someone asks you to load money onto a gift card or Visa card to pay for something

The sheriff's office also stated that most legitimate businesses will not ask you to load money on to a gift card for payment. ALWAYS research the company or business if you are not familiar with them before paying. 

When in doubt, call your local sheriff's office. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
