Local Legislative Delegation Visits Volunteer Fire Chief Association

HOUSTON COUNTY: Tonight the local legislative delegation visited the Houston County Volunteer Association meeting.
Once a month all 17 Volunteer Fire Department Chief's, a member of Dothan Fire Department, two members of Alabama Forestry meet together.
The legislative delegation, Senator Donnie Chesteen, State Representatives Paul Lee, Dexter Grimsley and Jeff Sorrells passed out funding checks from Alabama Governor Kay Ivey.
The legislative delegation and Governor Ivey supports the Volunteer Fire Departments and praises them for their work in saving lives and property.
Last year, Dothan Fire responded to over 15,000 calls. Pilcher Ambulance to over 11,000 calls in the city limits of Dothan.
The 17 Houston County Volunteer Fire Departments, 5 Volunteer/Paid Ambulances, Pilcher Ambulance and Headland Fire - EMS ( covers Kinsey ) was dispatched to about 7,500 calls or 55% of the calls Dothan Fire is dispatched to.
Tonight, following the check presentation, there was a discussion of Standard Operating Procedures. Each department operates as a non profit corporation, except for Columbia, Cottonwood, Ashford, Cowarts and Rehobeth. These departments operate under the respective cities.
