COVINGTON COUNTY AL:      A long time law enforcement in the Covington County and Crenshaw County area has been arrested and booked into the Covington County Jail.

Lockhart Police Chief Franklin Greg Jackson ( Greg Jackson ) was arrested and booked into the Covington County Jail. Jackson was arrested on Grand Jury indictments in cases presented by the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.

The Special Agent In Charge of the investigation for Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall is Richard Windham.

The Attorney General of the State of Alabama has the authority to call a special Grand Jury or present a case to a sitting Grand Jury.

Following the presentation of the case to the Covington County Grand Jury three indictments were issued. Those indictments, UNCONFIRMED BY COURT DOCUMENTS at this time for Domestic Violence, Domestic Violence by Strangulation and Domestic Violence by Stomping.

The arrest on the Grand Jury indictment is known as a fact. The specific charges we have not seen.

Jackson has been released on bond from the Covington County Jail.

RSN has been told Jackson has resigned from Lockhart Police Department. Jackson has worked with Covington County Sheriff Department under former Covington County Sheriff Dennis Meeks. When Sheriff Turnham was elected Jackson’s employment with Covington County Sheriff Department was terminated.

Jackson later worked with Crenshaw County Sheriff Department. Following some incidents in a chase Jackson retired.

Jackson then went to work with Lockhart Police Department. The City of Lockhart is not under the Retirement Systems of Alabama so Jackson did not have a cap on his salary.

This case will be tried by prosecutors of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.

Jackson was divorced in 2020. The victim in this case IS NOT the x-wife of Jackson. The victim is reported to be a girlfriend of Jackson.
