GENEVA COUNTY - HOUSTON COUNTY:    Slocomb Fire Chief Kyle Hovey with then Geneva County Emergency Management Director Eric Johnson approached the Geneva County Commission about purchasing LUCAS device for each of the EMS in Geneva County. The request was from the CARES Act money.

Geneva County Commission honored that request.

Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah along with Houston County EMS Association Vice President Heather Thomas approached the Houston County Commission about the purchase of LUCAS devices and monitor for the EMS in Houston County. The request was from CARES Act money.

The Houston County Commission honored that request.

LUCAS DEVICE  - Increased opportunities for better patient outcomes

The LUCAS device has shown to transform resuscitation by allowing for prolonged efforts
with good circulation, bringing time back on your side, extending the reach of care and bridging to PCI/ECMO.

When EMS arrives on a scene and a patient is not breathing, time is of the essence. One procedure required is chest compressions in CPR. The LUCAS device is a quick device placed on the patient that automates the chest compressions at the correct interval and correct pressure.

In the county settings, often times it is the medical provider and ambulance driver on the ambulance. A long was in Geneva County to the hospital for a person to be doing chest compressions. Same in areas of Houston County.

Traveling from Lucy to Southeast Health doing chest compressions, it is a long way.

SINCE THE LUCAS DEVICE

There has been several occasions those devices have been used. Some known results have been positive in patients having positive outcomes.

But remember, it is not the medical provider that decides the final outcome of a patient. All the medical provider can do is use the training and tools provided to give all they have in order to save a life. The final outcome is the decision of GOD.

The commissioners agreed with Hovey, Johnson, Judah and Thomas in Geneva and Houston County. They helped provide the tools needed and they have been valuable.
