On the night of July 6, 2019, Robert Celinko escaped from the Florida State Mental Hospital in Chattahoochee, Florida. A southeast US BOLO was broadcast for Celinko.
In the afternoon of July 7, 2019, an off duty Sunland Security Guard reported seeing Celinko climbing the back fence to Sunland where he used to be a resident.
Law Enforcement Officers from the Marianna Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol converged on the Sunland property and began checking the grounds for Celinko. After not seeing him in the open, a building by building search was ordered near where Celinko was last seen near the Medical Building.
An FHP Trooper observed a subject matching Celinko’s description enter the East Truman Building. Officers began an interior search of the building and located Celinko hiding in the laundry room behind a washing machine.
Celinko was taken into custody without incident and turned over to Florida State Hospital Security Personnel.
Chief Baggett urges the citizens of Marianna to report suspicious behavior and activities to the Marianna Police Department at 850-526-3125.
