MIDLAND CITY:    6:00. PM.   The Midland City Council met in a regular meeting tonight at the Midland City Hall.

The Midland City Council met in an Administrative Meeting prior to the regular meeting. That was at 6 PM.

Dale County Sheriff Wally and Chief Deputy Mason Bynum were present to discuss with Midland City about joining Ozark - Dale County 911.

Sheriff Olson told Mayor Gary and members of the Town Council he was encouraging Midland City Police to change radio systems to the same as the system as the Sheriff Department and dispatch come under the Ozark - Dale County 911.

Sheriff Olson said with one dispatch, time is of the essence in emergencies, and operating on one system would enhance the law enforcement departments response and working together.

Some Midland City Council members asked about the radios purchased before. Those radios will not operate on the new system the Sheriff Department has. Currently Ozark - Dale County 911 dispatches for all agencies throughout Dale County but Midland City and Daleville.

Currently Midland City is short dispatchers. Sheriff Olson thinks some of the current dispatchers would go to work with Ozark - Dale County 911. It was mentioned to the council with the changes to Ozark - Dale County 911, the dispatchers would then have state retirement benefits which they do not have with Midland City.

The Midland City Council voted to table this issue. No date set for reconsideration.

Last physical year Midland City spent over $ 150,000.00 in salaries and benefits for dispatchers. Under the proposal from Ozark - Dale County 911 the cost would be Between $ 45,000.00 to $ 50,000.00.

The cost would be the purchase of radios on the Motorola P25 system which is the same system as the City of Dothan uses, which is what Dale County Sheriff Department operates.

Daleville Police and Midland City Police operate on UHF radio system.

Ozark - Dale County 911 currently answers all 911 calls throughout Dale County, except for the City of Daleville.

Emergency Medical Dispatchers are required for 911 medical calls. Ozark - Dale County 911 has Emergency Medical Dispatchers which answers all Midland City 911 calls as all of the rest of Dale County, except Daleville.

Some council members were concerned about the dispatchers. But agencies are short of dispatchers so there are many agencies which need dispatchers.

The Event Committee is going to give gift cards and prizes for people to decorate their homes. Mayor Gary encouraged each council member to talk to the people of their districts and encourage people to decorate their homes.

CHRISTMAS IN THE CITY … they want everyone to be involved and be proud of decorating their homes.

CHRISTMAS PARADE on the 18th day of December. Line up at the school. Reception at the Senior Citizens Center.
