MOBILE ALA: On January 28, 2023 at approximately 7:48 PM, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department companies (E12, E18, E22, T4, R23, D3) were dispatched to Yester Oaks Apartments, 3701 Mossvale Drive, for reports of smoke visible from a building on the complex.
Upon arrival on scene, fire personnel described a 2-story apartment structure with smoke visible on the second floor. Fire scene operations were immediately established, as suppression teams rushed into the structure to begin the initial fire attack.
A 2nd-alarm response (E6, E8, E26, T17, D1, D4) was dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:54 PM. As smoke conditions continued to increase, search & rescue teams swept through the 1st and 2nd floors of the involved building. All apartment units were reported as evacuated.
Ventilation teams accessed the roof and meticulously, cut several holes across the roof to allow toxic gases and heated smoke to vertically escape the building. With better visibility, suppression teams were able to locate fires throughout the walls and attic.
After approximately 1 hour (8:58 PM), Incident Command reported the fire under control, as crews continued to overhaul the scene and attempt to save property in adjacent apartment units.
Two units were directly impacted by flames, smoke, and water damage. Several families have been displaced from the building, as a result of the incident.
There were no civilians or firefighters injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
