DALE COUNTY: It was last Saturday when Ozark - Dale County 911 rolled units to reports of a child unresponsive and not breathing.
Emergency units rolled, rapidly, to the scene.
Several were kayaking and a accident occurred while swimming and the child was swept under the water. Reports are a man saw the child under the water and pulled him out of the water.
A lady, a bank cashier, knew CPR and immediately initiated CPR on the child. While doing CPR a man called 911.
When the call came out a child, everyone was rapid response. Survival Flight was launched to the scene.
The child was brought out on a Kubota ATV. Survival Flight had landed. Echo EMS was on the scene. A quick examination of the child the determination was made it was in the child's best interest to ground transport rather than air transport.
Survival Flight crew are specially trained. Their training exceeds that of a paramedic. They have the training and legal authority to take over someone's breathing and breath for them. The Survival Flight crew boarded the ambulance along with Echo EMS. As I understand four were in the back of the ambulance fighting to save this child.
Law Enforcement was told by EMS of the ground transport. Dale County Sheriff Deputies began running ahead of the ambulance clearing intersections and the path so the ambulance never had to slow or make cars move. Along with Dale County Sheriff Deputies, ALEA - Troopers, Houston County Sheriff Deputies and Dothan Police were falling into intersections blocking traffic racing this child to the hospital.
Dothan Police Lt. Rachael David saw the mom was in her swimming suit. Lt. David, the day shift patrol commander, went on her own and with her own money and purchased clothes for the mother and delivered them to her at Southeast Health.
Either Saturday or early Sunday the child was flown to Children's Hospital in Birmingham.
