HALEBURG:    This past Sunday Mr. John Burdeshaw was laid to rest at Camp Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Burdeshaw served his country in the Air National Guard. And for 25 years Mr. Burdeshaw served his community of HALEBURG as a VOLUNTEER FIREMAN.

Today is the 20th year since the 9/11 attacks on America. In the attack 8 EMT'S/Paramedics, 60 police officers, 343 firefighters and 2,997 civilians lost their lives.

Mr. John Burdeshaw is one of hunded's of thousand fireman, both who serve as a career job and a volunteer job, to serve their communities.

Many of those who died did so running "in" to save others. In doing so, they lost their lives while working to save others.  In matters not if you are a career fireman or volunteer, each run "in" to save lives.

I am passionate about those who are willing to give their lives so others may live.

Isaiah 6:8 " Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Who shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me."

Those who gave their lives in the attacks on America, they went in and gave their life. The true definition of heroes.

While Mr. Burdeshaw died from a medical issue, his 25 years as a volunteer fireman, to me, represents one who would have been willing to have given his life to save others. He did so in the 25 years of volunteer service and in those years I am sure was placed in some bad situations.

Mr. Burdeshaw also worked to improve his community, his county, and the fire service he volunteered in to serve his community. He worked to get roads names and homes numbered to speed up emergency response.

This past Sunday other volunteers and career first responders showed their respect at the memorial services at Wright Funeral Home in Headland. And the escort following the service to the cemetery with the body of Mr. Burdeshaw on the fire truck and Mrs. Burdeshaw in the passenger seat of the fire truck.

On this special day we SALUTE and remember all of the civilians, the emergency responders of law enforcement - fire - EMS who responded to the multiple emergency calls on the 911 attack.

We PRAISE GOD for placing the right man in leadership, President George Bush, at a time this nation needed him.

And daily, we give thanks for the men and women who are willing to serve as career or volunteer, law enforcement - fire - EMS - Emergency Management - Utilities - dispatch 911 centers - doctors - nurses and support staff.

Mr. Burdeshaw's escort represents those willing to serve.

NOTE:   Mr. Burdeshaw died of natural causes. But his life represented one of service.
