Mr. Mike Brackin - Faithful - Dedicated - Faithful Servant of GOD

DOTHAN:    This week Dothan - Houston County lost a man who was a living example of a servant of a loving and caring GOD.

I first remember Mike Brackin at Ray's Restaurant, if memory serves me correctly, driving a red Dodge van, selling paint as he started Brackin Wholesale Coatings.

In the late 1980's when I got married, Marsha was a life long member of Memphis Baptist Church and I was a life long member of Southside Baptist Church. We decided to make Memphis Baptist Church our church home.

As years clicked, I got to know Mike and Gloria Brackin better. Every time the doors open, you could count on Mike and Gloria Brackin being at church. Always faithful. Mike served a lot of years as Sunday School Director and Gloria Brackin in the choir. And I had the pleasure of sitting under Gloria Brackin's leadership as my teacher in Sunday School.

For several years I had the pleasure of serving in Adult 4 Sunday School as leader. There were a couple of things that I undertook;

(1) for two months got people to write questions down they wanted answered about Christ. Then gave them to Brother O'Neal, our pastor. One night we had a special class time and ate hot dogs and Brother O'Neal read each question and Biblically answered the questions. That night a lady who had been in the church for years made a profession of faith. I never asked was that because a question she was afraid to answer she got an answer. All I know is, a profession of faith was made by her.

(2) I asked Mike and Gloria Brackin one Sunday evening to come in and meet with the Adult 4 Sunday School early, and talk about their lives, and raising their children. Most in the Adult 4 were young, not married long, and with little children. I asked then to give advise on raising children.

I always remember the Brackin's saying they could have had a place at the lake or beach, but having one would complicate with being in Church on Sunday and Wednesday. That is why they never got one. The Brackins were faithful in the service of a GREAT and RISEN Lord and do not want anything to come in between.

Mike and Gloria Brackin set a fine example for others to follow.

The Brackins raised three wonderful kids: Andrea Brackin Herring ( Ricky ). Through some personal things in life troubling me, at the alter, I will always remember Andrea coming from the choir and placing her arm around me, praying with and for me through troubled times that exist still today. Andrea a faithful member of Memphis Baptist and in the choir every Sunday; Shon Brackin ( Kelly ) who was active at church. A young man with a voice that I love to hear him sing. A great personality, a great talent in voice.: Allison Harvey     ( Johnny ). Allison was the one with the wit and funny. Was not around Allison a lot but she was full of character and fun.

Memphis Baptist lost a faithful servant when Mike got sick. His wife of 53 years was there by his side, daily. She cared for him and took care of his every need.

THANK YOU to Mike Brackin for the example you set for others to follow. A dedicated husband and father, a dedicated Christian, a dedicated church member, a terrific father and grandfather, a honest and successful businessman. THANK YOU to Gloria Brackin for your faithfulness in caring for Mike for 53 years, but most especially through these times of Mike being sick.

And thank you for the lesson to the young people of Adult 4 that you took time to share life experiences with young married couples.

LOVE YOU and THANK YOU for what you each meant to me in my time around you. While you never knew it, and while I might not always act like it, you taught me a lot in your witness.
