Murder Investigation Underway After Man Found Dead

OPP, Ala — A murder investigation is underway in Opp after police say they found a 41-year-old man dead in a home over the weekend. 


According to the Opp Police Department, on Saturday, March 4, around 12:55 p.m., Opp police were dispatched to the 2300 block of West Cumming Avenue on reports of a dead man inside a home. 


Once officers arrived, they found Kelvin Burks dead in the kitchen area of the home. Criminal investigators were called to the scene. 


Burks was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy, which revealed the cause of death to be a homicide, according to OPD. 


No details concerning the murder have been released.


Opp Criminal Investigators have worked on the case in conjunction with agents from the State Bureau of Investigation and the Covington County District Attorney’s Office.
