DOTHAN, Alabama – The holidays can be difficult to face when you have to worry about where your next meal will come from. A Dothan nursing home is working to make sure local seniors don’t go without much-needed groceries this season. For the ninth year, Westside Terrace Healthcare will deliver donated holiday groceries and other non-perishable food items to seniors for Thanksgiving.
The community can help the facility by donating food items or making financial contributions to their annual Cornucopia of Care food drive this month.
“Food insecurity is a terrible problem for our state, especially within our older population,” said Westside Terrace administrator, Kristie Hughes. “The Cornucopia of Care is an opportunity for the community to provide support to seniors in need as well as let them know that people care and that they are not alone.”
Donations will be collected until Wednesday, November 20. After all the donations are collected, Westside Terrace staff will pack bags of groceries and deliver them to seniors Nov. 25 and 26.
To donate non-perishable food items (cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, etc.), grocery gift cards or monetary donations, drop them off at Westside Terrace Healthcare or mail the contribution to 501 N. Woodburn Drive, Dothan, AL 36303, Attention: Food Drive. Call 334-794-1000 with any questions.
