Dothan - Today is one of those bittersweet days for one Dothan Fire Sergeant. Stacy McCardle is hanging up his fire helmet after this 24 hour shift. Sergeant McCardle has been a member of the Dothan Fire Department for over 25 years. If you have ever had the privilege to work with Stacy you would know that he is always quiet and doesn’t say a lot. However, you never underestimate McCardle because he has some of the best jokes and comebacks the fire service has ever seen.
Sergeant McCardle is also a Paramedic for the department. He has been on the technical rescue team since it was established. He was a member of the initial group that was trained in many different task including: High Angle Rescue, Trench Rescue, Structural Collapse, Confined Space Rescue, Swift Water and others.
If you know McCardle you know he is always working. Spending long nights at the fire station to turn around and drive back and forth to market in Birmingham on his days off. However, you would never hear him complain. He owns and operates McCardle Farms with his sons and recently opened a family market in Cottonwood. Retiring from the Fire Department will now allow McCardle to focus more on his farming and the store. If your around Cottonwood stop in the 4 Seasons Market, you won’t regret it.
Congratulations Stacy, enjoy your retirement even though you will be working just as much if not more.
