Opp man arrested after armed standoff

OPP—A 22-year-old Opp man was arrested Saturday morning after a an armed standoff with law enforcement on Hattaway Road. 


Cody J. Carnley is charged with first-degree attempted assault and unlawful imprisonment.


Officers responded to a call around 8 a.m. about a man firing a weapon inside a home. Carley was seen near the front door, armed, warning officers not to approach. 


Police learned Carnley had fired a gun at a family member's passing vehicle — but during the standoff law enforcement saw Carnley holding a small child. 


After a two-hour standoff, Carley was taken into custody without injuries. He got a mental health evaluation from Mizell Memorial Hospital before he was booked into Covington County Jail, his bond set at $115,000.
