DOTHAN: 3:00 PM Where oh... where is JACK today? Why did he leave us here all alone?
I searched the facilities all over and I never thought I would find him... and I did not...
With over 21,000 fire and calls answered a year throughout the 582 square miles of Houston County, some 7,000 fire and EMS calls are outside the corporate city limits of Dothan and in the county.
While eating lunch I was asked by a Houston County EMS if the paging system was down. Cottonwood EMS was dispatched a call over the radio and the driver had to be called on the phone. The driver said he never received a page.
Asked Houston County Sheriff 911 to page out that the paging system was down and they needed to page out ( they can tone out over the radio ) the text paging is down. Houston County Sheriff 911 only toned out Cottonwood and no one else.
I have a mechanism to text all fire and EMS in the county. Also I am able to text page the Chiefs of Fire and EMS in the county. There are 17 Volunteer Fire and 5 Volunteer EMS across the 582 square miles of this county. So I text paged them in order to notify their members.
FYI - the fire and EMS use a software program called ACTIVE 911. All of the members do not always listen for the radio and depend on ACTIVE 911. Like when in Church... and today is Sunday. Not knowing the page system is down would mean members are not listening to the radio.
And no one in power in the 911 system ever notified the 17 Fire Departments and 5 EMS over the 582 square miles of Houston County the paging system was down.
The City of Dothan emergency system has been unable to electronically handle business since Saturday. And no one has notified the county fire and EMS.
CITY OF DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY COMMUNICATIONS DISTRICT
The City of Dothan - Houston County Communications District pays to the City of Dothan some $ 150,000.00 a year for IT services. When I served on the board of the 911 I tried to get 911 to employ their own IT person. They refused and hired someone to maintain the building.
After four years without a IT person, Dothan City Manager Mike West hired Jack Mason from Marianna. He was the IT for Family Dollar or Dollar General. He had never been in emergency services.
Dothan City Manager Mike West made threats on former Dothan IT Director Tim Stewart. He lived in Slocomb but attended church in Dothan. West threatened Stewart that he would lose his job if he did not move to Dothan. Stewart finally retired.
Dothan IT Rob Meredith was the Interim IT Director for four years. West would not promote Meredith to IT Director, but Meredith was capable of managing IT for four years.
Dothan City Manager Mike West and the current City Manager has allowed Jack Mason to continue to live in Marianna Florida and not required him to move to Dothan. Like they were requiring Stewart to move from Slocomb to Dothan.
Jack Mason was not found to be in Dothan working to resolve the problems.
To not notice the men and women who work to provide fire and EMS coverage in this county is shameful.
Houston County Commissioners Ricky Herring and Brandon Shoupe, why did you allow the citizens of the 582 square miles of this county safety, lives and welfare to be in danger? The two of you want to run everything and not even capable of running a Hoover Vacuum.
RICKEY STOKES... I AM CALLING YOU OUT COMMISSIONERS AND 911 DIRECTOR!!!!
