Morgan County Sheriff Ron Puckett said investigators don’t know if the killer or killers of the seven people in Valhermoso Springs on June 4 were sending a message or it was an accident when they also fatally shot a dog in the house at the time of the slayings.
“We don’t know,” Puckett said about the late night shooting at 522 Talucah Road. “It could have been intentional. Maybe somebody was holding the dog when the perpetrators came in. That is one of the things we don’t know about in this case.”
The county seat of Morgan County Alabama is Decatur Alabama. The population is 119,490 according to the 2010 Census. The county encompasses 575 square miles.
Distance from Houston County to Morgan County is 274 miles, 4 hours and 24 minutes.
To The Wiregrass Area: use caution anyone you encounter that you do not know. Report to nearest 911 Center anything suspicious you might see. What you might think is insignificant could be significant.
While Morgan County is 4 hours and 24 minutes away you never know “who” or “where“ suspects could be located.
At one time each county the license plate first two numbers represented the county number. Morgan County the first two numbers are 52.
However the license plate czars have gone away from that so no guarantee the suspects have a 52 license plate.
Deputies said there are two white men, two black men and three white women are the murdered victims. No children.
Swafford told AL.com that investigators believe the suspect went to the residence with the intention of shooting everyone there.
Some victims had multiple gunshot wounds, Swafford said. Authorities are still working to identify all of the victims, but Swafford said some lived at the house where the shootings occurred.
“Incredibly heinous, talking cold-blooded,” Swafford said in describing the homicides.
Deputies at the scene extinguished the fire, which Swafford said investigators speculate was started to cover up the crime.
The director of the county’s 911 service two calls reporting gunfire at the residence came in around 11:30 p.m. One caller said a gun had been fired intermittently for an hour.
