Reason Rickey Stokes Was Not At Henry County Commission Meeting

HENRY COUNTY:     On Tuesday the Henry County Commission met in their regular Administrative Meeting followed by the voting meeting.

Due to my having a court appearance in Dale County Circuit Court on reference to a person who failed to appear in court I had to send Chelsea to cover the meetings.

Chelsea recorded them and both meetings are posted. To be honest I have not had time to listen to the meetings. Hopefully this weekend I will be able to. But both a posted for your viewing.

The Henry County Commission, after 8 months of being tabled. did vote to fund both Abbeville Rescue and Headland Rescue in the amount of $ 12,000.00 a month for the remainder of this physical year for ambulance service. The fiscal year for government runs October 1 until September 30.

At the end of the year the commission will then evaluate the funding issue of EMS and how things have operated.

Headland EMS is under the City of Headland. The fireman and EMS are employees of the City of Headland. The operation of Headland Fire and EMS is a professional operation who handles their runs and has excellent service.

Abbeville Rescue has in the past operated a professional EMS Service. Over the last several years the service has slacked. Some of the issue is no one wants to volunteer. Since May 2022 Henry County has awaited the City of Abbeville to make a decision.

Recently there was a medical emergency at Billy Lawrence GMC in the city limits of Abbeville. There was no ambulance available in Abbeville. Both Haleburg Rescue and Headland Rescue responded.

The man died. RSN can not say if a ambulance arrived in time the man might be alive today. Something we will never have an accurate answer to. But the procrastination of 8 months in making decisions on emergency medical care, there is no excuse for.

Tuesday's actions will hopefully end the procrastination.

In Henry County there are three ambulances. Haleburg is totally volunteer. There was no funding mention for Haleburg. While they are 100% volunteer there was no mention of funding for Haleburg.
