JACKSON COUNTY FLA: On Saturday, August 24, around 11 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a BOLO from the Florida Highway Patrol in reference to an SUV driving recklessly on Interstate 10. The Sneads Police Department was also asked to assist in locating the vehicle.

Shortly after law enforcement was dispatched to the area, the Sneads Police Department conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on I-10 near the Sneads exit. Contact was made with the driver, John Daniel Osborne, and a strong odor of marijuana was immediately detected coming from the vehicle.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies requested a Sneads Police Officer deploy K9 Boots and he gave a positive alert for the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted and four firearms with ammunition were located, along with anabolic steroids, 15 grams of methamphetamine, 34 alprazolam pills, 23.1 grams of marijuana and multiple items of drug paraphernalia.

It was then discovered that Osborne is an 8-time convicted felon. He did not possess a valid prescription for the alprazolam pills, nor a medical marijuana card.

Osborne was arrested and is being charged with four counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, two counts of Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Scheduled III Controlled Substance, Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of a Scheduled IV Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana Over 20 Grams, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

“I want to thank the Florida Highway Patrol and Sneads Police Department for their assistance in this case,” Sheriff Edenfield said. “I am proud and thankful for the teamwork exhibited by our agencies, without which Mr. Osborne may not be in custody today.”
