DOTHAN: Honor our "Honored Fallen" we honor Sergeant Shelby Owens, Unit Number MX4.
End of Watch: November 9th, 1970
Sergeant Owens began his employment with the Dothan Police Department as a Traffic Patrolman on April 16th, 1951 and was promoted to Sergeant on February 11th, 1970.
On November 9th, 1970, While on duty, Sergeant Owens was killed after being involved in a motor vehicle collision while operating his department issued motorcycle.
The accident was at Zenith and Ross Clark Circle.
I very much remember Sgt. Owens. He worked the school crossing guard post most days at Cherokee Avenue. He also worked at Bob-A-Lou Skating rink at nights and weekends.
Sgt. Owens has a son, Ray who retired from Dothan Police Department and a grandson, Scott, who is still with Dothan Police Department.
I can say, I knew Sgt. Shelby Owens and can say he was a friend to many children in this community.
Sergeant Owens……YOU ARE REMEMBERED!
