MONTGOMERY:      For 47 consecutive years Mr. Bobby Timmons ( Robert D. “ Bobby” Timmons ) served the State of Alabama Sheriff’s as Executive Director of the Alabama Sheriff’s Association.


Mr. Bobby Timmons began with the Alabama Sheriff Association in 1975 and retired in 2022 at the age of 91.


Mr. Bobby Timmons once served as special assistant to Jefferson County Sheriff Mel Bailey. Timmons also served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1970 - 1974.


First, Bobby Timmons loved the people of the State of Alabama. And Bobby Timmons also loved the Sheriff’s of Alabama and how they served the people of this state.


Sheriff’s from all 67 counties would seek the guidance and wisdom of Bobby Timmons as they served each were elected to serve. 


Normally Mr. Bobby Timmons would be found sitting at the end of a long conference table. There were stacks and stacks of papers all along that conference table. You would ask Mr. Timmons a question and he knew exactly what stack to go to and where the document was that answered and supported his answer to that question.


Currently Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza serves as President of the Alabama Sheriff Association. He met Bobby Timmons in 1983. Sheriff Valenza says that Timmons was a mentor to him since the first day they met.


Retired Dale County Sheriff Bryant Mixon served many hours and was personal friends to Bobby Timmons. As Retired Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson served as President of the Alabama Sheriff Association, Retired Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton, Retired Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward, current 8 term Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas who all served as President of the Alabama Sheriff Association will tell you, Bobby Timmons knew the Sheriff’s roles and what they could do better than any man in Alabama.
