BAY COUNTY FLA: On May 7, 2024, a man called 911 to report he was almost run off the road for the third time by the driver of a Nissan Xterra near the intersection of Back Beach Road and Moylan Road. The victim stated to responding deputies that the incident began when he was riding his motorcycle on Hutchison Blvd and turned left onto Richard Jackson Blvd just as the Nissan was turning right onto the same road. The Nissan cut him off, even though the motorcycle had a green turn light. The two exchanged words and the driver of the Nissan attempted to cut the victim off again, coming within two feet of the motorcycle.
The victim continued traveling north and cut through the parking lot of a bank and the driver of the Nissan followed the victim into the parking lot. The victim drove back onto Back Beach Road, heading east, followed by the Nissan. Just west of Moylan Road, the Nissan attempted to cut the victim off again and the victim had to change lanes. The victim stated he believed he would have been hit by the Nissan had he not swerved out of his lane.
This third incident was captured on video by an independent witness traveling behind the two. BCSO investigators identified the driver of the Nissan as Thomas Campbell, age 46, of Panama City.
Contact was made with Campbell on May 9, 2024. He admitted to accidentally cutting the victim off and that the victim yelled at him. He also admitted to following the victim through a parking lot and back onto the road, but only to avoid traffic, and denied swerving into the victim’s lane near Moylan Road. When shown the video of the last encounter with the victim, Campbell stated he did not remember that part of the incident.
Campbell was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
