KINSEY: 08:58 PM On October 11, 2020 at 2:10 AM Houston County 911 dispatched a burglary in progress on Nomad Circle in Kinsey. Within minutes of the dispatch Houston County 911 updated the call to a firearm assault.
A person was breaking into the house and the homeowner or person at the house shot the suspect.
Headland EMS rushed the gunshot patient to Southeast Health. Tonight the person was pronounced dead at Southeast Health.
The person shot has been identified as Dantrail Mills of Dothan.
Mills is reported ( UNCONFIRMED WITH AUTHORITIES ) had been seeing the homeowner or person staying at this residence. The new boyfriend was there and reports ( UNCONFIRMED WITH AUTHORITIES ) and Dantrail Mills was alleged to have been attempting to break into the house.
In A February 5, 2020 news report written by the late Michelle Forehand, it was written that Dantrail Mills was convicted of 15 crimes and being released from prison.
According to the news reports, a March 4th hearing before the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Parole were holding a hearing on Dantrail Mills release from the Alabama Department of Corrections.
Mills has been convicted in Houston County and been released from prison multiple times. Mills was convicted in 2018 of four counts of drug possession and sentenced to 10 years in prison. According to the records of the Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole quoted by the late Michelle Forehand, Mills served two years of the ten year sentence.
In January 2014 Mills was reported to have been arrested for shooting at someone in the 900 block of North Oates Street. According to the police, after the shooting, a then un-identified person in a tan sedan had started arguing with someone in the 1100 block of North Alice Street. The argument turned physical when the man in the vehicle pulled out a gun and started shooting at the other personas he ran away. Several gunshots struck a building in the area. No one was injured.
Dothan Police arrested Mills after stopping a vehicle matching the description given to police.
In April 2015, Forehand wrote Mills was arrested again and charged with firing into pedestrians on April 14 outside the 7 Sisters Lounge, striking one person. Mills was convicted in 2014 on three drug possession charges and sentenced to five years in the Alabama Department of Corrections. But Mills was released after serving less than two years.
Mills is reported to had a string of six convictions in 2009, five on drug charges and one for obstruction of justice. Mills was sentenced to ten years. Mills was again released after serving three years and seven months.
Mills has drug convictions from 2006 and 2007 for which he was sentenced to three years, but Mills again served just over a year before he was released.
The shooting this weekend that claimed the life of Mills, UNCONFIRMED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT, is reported to be a stand your ground incident.
Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza might possibly hold a press conference on this case.
