Sheriff Donald Valenza Held Press Conference on Shots Fired

DOTHAN — Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza held a press conference today in reference to a shooting into a car that occurred in the parking lot of the Houston County Court House. Dothan Police and Houston County Sheriff have arrested an 18-year-old Dothan man.


Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Dothan Police, Kinsey Police, Webb Police, and Cottonwood Police rushed to the Houston County Courthouse after receiving reports of a shots fired in the parking lot across the street.


Sheriff Valenza says Jalen Baker went to his car and retrieved a handgun, approached a 2013 Kia Optima, put the gun through the window, and after a short struggle, the gun went off and hit the car’s radio, and Baker fled.


After an investigation, officers recovered a 9mm handgun that was reported stolen from Ozark, according to Valenza.


Baker is charged with one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle and one count of receiving stolen property in the second degree.


During the press conference Thursday morning, Sheriff Valenza also discussed an incident that had occurred at the Veteran Affairs office on the north side of Dothan.
