BAY COUNTY FLA: On June 18, 2024, the Special Investigations Division (SID) served a search warrant at 112 Marin Lake Drive, Springfield, Florida. An investigation into a fentanyl trafficking organization had indicated the activity was going on in this home.

BCSO Investigators approached the residence as they verbally identified themselves. A resident of the home, Elias Barela, attempted to flee by jumping out of a rear window. Investigators positioned at the back of the house prevented his escape and he was quickly taken into custody.

Upon entering the residence, investigators made contact with three additional adults. They were identified as Tyree Jones, Angel Godinez, and Janice Soney. A search of the home led to the seizure of significant quantities of illegal substances, including more than 7.3 pounds of Fentanyl, approximately 7.8 ounces of methamphetamine, six pounds of synthetic drugs known as “tunechi”, two pounds of marijuana, three handguns, and over $27,000 in cash.

Jones, age 30, and Godinez, age 32, were both charged with Trafficking in Fentanyl (more than 28 grams), Trafficking in Methamphetamine (more than 200 grams), Trafficking in Synthetic Drugs (more than 1,000 grams), Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Failure to Register as a Convicted Felon, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Barela, age 30, was charged with Trafficking in Fentanyl (more than 28 grams), Trafficking in Methamphetamine (more than 200 grams), Trafficking in Synthetic Drugs (more than 1,000 grams), Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Soney, age 33, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

All suspects were booked into the Bay County Jail.

This investigation was supported by the State Assistance for Fentanyl Eradication or S.A.F.E. program. Established by Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature in 2023, S.A.F.E. is a program supporting investigations designed to combat illegal fentanyl activity. This grant provides reimbursement to approved fentanyl-related operations to help agencies with overtime, travel costs, investigative supplies, equipment, and training costs.
