The month of May is Small Business Month, and RSN is spotlighting those who deserve recognition during this special time.

One small local business that deserves recognition is Dove Christian Supply (DCS) located at 3112 Ross Clark Circle, Suite 2, in Dothan.

DCS is a full-service Christian book and gift store that sells different types of merchandise to encourage faith.

This store’s mission is to provide inspiring products that uplift and encourage individuals in their faith journey; they have a carefully curated selection of Christian books and meaningful and unique gift items.

Owners, Donna and Chip McCollough, took over this family-owned business in 2017. In September of 2022, DCS celebrated its fortieth anniversary of being open. Pete and Yvonne McCollough started the business and retired in 2017, which is when Donna and Chip took over and became second-generation family business owners.

Donna said, “I think it’s been the toughest five years to try to be in business with the way the crazy world has been, but we are so thankful to continue to be a part of the Wiregrass community.”

When asked what advice she would give to someone thinking about starting a business, Donna said to pray, pray, and pray some more and to get ready for long hours. She said to keep a business going, you have to be willing to do whatever it takes.

“I think a small business owner’s superpower is being able to pivot when needed. We can see a challenge or obstacle and make decisions immediately that can determine the success of our store. We personally have been able to adapt to changes over the years by responding to what our customers want and trying to provide a level of service so that they want to continue to shop with us and support us,” Donna said.

When asked what the most-sold item was, she said they have a lot of different items that are popular, but the Bible remains one of their top items; she is thankful people are still seeking God.

Donna said, “I really consider us more of a Christian lifestyle store because of our amazing selection of products.”

They are all about encouraging faith and sharing life with their community. They are passionate about finding products that help people grow in their faith and help them share their faith with others. She said that because she and Chip have lived in the Wiregrass their whole lives, they are invested in Dothan and the surrounding areas.

Chip and Donna are thankful they can support several local nonprofit organizations in the area; she says this is due to the support of her customers.

Donna said the family came up with the business name because her in-laws wanted to spread God’s love on the wings of a dove; additionally, the Holy Spirit is sometimes symbolized as a dove.

“We strive to create a space where people can find inspiration, hope, and encouragement. With a commitment to quality, authenticity, and customer satisfaction, we aim to make a difference one customer at a time,” Donna said.

They believe that faith can truly transform lives, and it is their joy to be a part of their valued customers’ journeys.

Next time you are out and about in Dothan, stop by Dove Christian Supply. If you want an encouraging faith-based book or gift for a brother or sister in Christ, they are your one-stop shop!

And remember-- support your local small businesses!
