***SPECIAL NOTICE***
PROBATE OFFICE PROCEDURES EFFECTIVE MARCH 23, 2020
In light of COVID-19, the Houston County Commission has restricted public access to the Houston County Administration Building effective Monday, March 23, 2020. However, the Tag and Title Department, Recording Department, and Probate Court Department, will remain open for services. Clerks will provide curb service to meet your probate office needs.
To the extent possible, we encourage you to interact with the Probate office by mail, online, or by phone (see instructions below for completing online, mail, or telephone tag renewal). If you have any questions about the services we will be providing, please do not hesitate to call us at 334-677-4792.
Tag Renewal
Online Renewal
One way of limiting contact is to renew online. To renew online, you will need a record number, this can be found on the courtesy renewal notices that are mailed out or you may call (256) 275-4042 to obtain the record number. After obtaining a record number, go to our website, www.houstoncountyprobate.org. At our website, click on the pay online tab on the right and then renew tag.
US Mail Renewal
Another way to renew is by mail. To renew by mail, please include your payment and the renewal notice which you received in the mail.
Telephone Renewal
To renew your vehicle tag by phone, please call 334-677-4720. You will need to provide a credit/debit card to pay by phone.
Driver’s License Renewal
You may also renew your driver’s license online once every eight years as long as no changes are necessary. To renew online, go to our website, www.houstoncountyprobate.org. At our website, click on the pay online tab on the right and then renew driver’s license.
Probate Court
Effective immediately, through April 16, 2020, all in-person court proceedings, with the exception of proceedings related to emergency mental health orders, proceedings related to protection of elderly or vulnerable persons, time sensitive matters, and matters than can be handled without undue health risks are hereby cancelled until further order of the Court.
If you have an attorney, contact your attorney with any questions. If not, please contact the Probate Court at 334-677-4701.
Thank you,
Patrick H. Davenport
Houston County Probate Judge
