Today’s "Spotlight on Schools" article features a Cottonwood High School senior.
Lauren Dodson was selected as the recipient to receive the April Kirkland Memorial Scholarship.
This scholarship is presented each year to a deserving Cottonwood senior by Mrs. Gail Adams.
Mrs. Adams raises money for the scholarship throughout the school year in memory of her daughter, April Kirkland, and the school chooses the most deserving senior.
Requirements are to have a C or above grade point average and to write a 150-word essay.
Dodson has been a member of the marching band and concert band for six years; she was selected as drum major her senior year. She has also been a member of Beta Club for four years and FBLA for two years; she currently serves as FBLA president. Additionally, she has served on the yearbook staff for two years.
She has also received the following scholarships:
-Wallace Instrumental Scholarship (full tuition)
-Wallace Academics Scholarship (full tuition)
-Enterprise State Community College ($4,482)
-University of Alabama ($8,000)
-Southeast Gas Community Service Scholarship ($1,500)
-Wiregrass Electric Youth Tour Delegate Scholarship ($1,500)
-Alfa Foundation Scholarship ($1,000)
-Auburn University: Ever to Conquer Scholarship ($20,000)
-Auburn University: Samford Society Endowed Scholarship ($1,000)
-Auburn University: Spirit of Auburn Scholarship ($20,000)
Dodson plans to attend Wallace Community College to get an associate’s degree in applied science and then transfer to Auburn University to earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. She then plans to move back to Dothan to further her career.
