Strong to Severe Storms Possible This Afternoon and Evening Across the FL Panhandle and Big Bend

Bottom Line:

Strong to severe storms are possible from mid-afternoon through late tonight, particularly in our FL counties. A couple brief tornadoes, damaging winds, and small hail will be the main threats with this system.

Overview:

A cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms may occur in the late afternoon to early evening hours beginning in our western FL Panhandle counties. The storms will gradually move east throughout the evening into early Saturday morning where they will exit through the easternmost FL Big Bend. The severe threat will be largely limited to our FL counties, though our SE AL and SW GA counties bordering FL could possibly see some stronger storms if the warm front advances farther north than forecast. The Storm Prediction Center currently has the majority of our FL counties in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5).

 

In addition, around 1-2" of rain is expected areawide with the higher amounts occurring in our SW GA counties. Isolated rainfall amounts of 3-4" are also possible which could cause isolated flooding and/or create rises along rivers. The Weather Prediction Center has nearly the entire Tallahassee forecast area in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 4) for excessive rainfall.
