HOUSTON COUNTY:    At 3:23 PM Houston County Sheriff Department dispatched multiple Houston County Volunteer Fire Departments to a structure fire on Melton Road south of Gordon.

Water is an issue in that part of Houston County. Houston County Commissioner of District 2, Doug Sinquefield, has been working many avenues to solve the water issue. Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah has been working with Commissioner Sinquefield to come up with solutions.

But in the mean time water trucks from fire departments are rolled to the scene. Gordon Volunteer Fire, Lucy Volunteer Fire, Pansey Volunteer Fire, Lovetown Volunteer Fire and Cottonwood Volunteer Fire responded.

Ashford Volunteer Rescue responded.

Houston County Commissioner of District 2 Doug Sinquefield responded to the scene to assist. Commissioner Sinquefield is the best commissioner to respond and help. But also minister to the needs of people.

The trailer was fully engulfed. Water was a definite issue. But the departments worked well together and did what they could do in order to save the structure or as much as they could.

Over and Over and Over and Over today you have seen me mention. While those paid officials enjoyed Mother's Day, the volunteers of this county worked their buttocks off. They sacrificed their Mother's Day in order to serve the people of this county.

Outside the city limits of Dothan, the men and women who make up the 17 volunteer fire departments, 5 volunteer EMS, Pilcher Ambulance who has an assigned territory in the county, and Headland Fire - Rescue that serves Kinsey, answer over 7,200 calls per year.

I have been in the emergency service field since 1977, which is 43 years now. Longer than Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza. And until I started keeping the numbers I never realized how many calls they were making. That is a volume of 49% of the calls answered by Dothan Fire Department.

Houston County Commission can not afford what they are doing now. If they had to pay for all of this, there is no way they could afford it. No way.

THANK YOU District 2 Houston County Commissioner Doug Sinquefield for your concern and your response.

THANKS YOU to the volunteer fire and EMS that took your Mother's Day to work all of the calls today. And for accepting the liability outside your box in working traffic on trees down and cutting the trees to make the roads safe.
