Swearing In Of Dothan Commissioners, Dothan Mayor, Dothan School Board Chairman and Dothan School Board Members

DOTHAN:    On Monday evening the Mayor for the City of Dothan and Associate Commissioners for the City of Dothan, along with the Chairman of the Dothan City Schools and members of the Dothan School Board received the Oaths of Office.

The City of Dothan and Dothan City Schools are two different entities and neither have nay control over the other entity. So rather than a joint swearing in ceremony there were two different ceremonies, two different locations.

RSN attended the Dothan Civic Center for the Mayor and Associate Commissioners.

The moderator for the ceremonies was Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper. The ceremonies was opened by Dothan Fire - Dothan Police Honor Guard for the presentation of the flags. Following the presentation of the flags Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Dothan Police Officer Brannon Hannon sang the National Anthem.

Associate Commissioner District 1 Kevin Dorsey - Oath Administered by Dr. Floyd Griffin, Coach.

Associate Commissioner District 2 Aristotle Kirkland - Oath Administered by Dr. James Coleman, Jr., CEO, Carmichael Health Center, Inc.

Associate Commissioner District 3 Bradley Bedwell - Oath Administered by Jeff Coleman, Chairman, Coleman World Group.

Associate Commissioner District 4 John Ferguson - Oath Administered by Rev. Ray Jones, Pastor, Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

Associate Commissioner District 5 Gant Pierce - Oath Administered by Wayne Pierce.

Associate Commissioner District 6 David Crutchfield - Oath Administered by Tammy Danner, Retired City Clerk - City of Dothan.

Mayor of the City of Dothan, Mark Saliba. Sworn in for his second term of office by his wife, Angie Saliba. Mayor Mark Saliba used his dad's Bible, former Dothan Mayor Alfred Saliba's Bible for the oath of office. In 1973 his dad was sworn into the Office of Mayor using the same Bible.

Associate Commissioner of District 2, Janesky Fleming did not seek re-election. Associate Commissioner of District 3, Albert Kirkland, served ten years but lost his bid for re-election. Associate Commissioner of District 5, Beth Kenward did not seek re-election.

DOTHAN SCHOOL BOARD - 

Scott Childers was sworn in as Chairman of the Board of Dothan City Schools. 

School Board members are Brenda Guilford, Dr. Franklin Jones, Melanie Hill, Brett Strickland, Amy Bonds, and Aurie Jenkins.

School Board Chairman Mike Schmitz did not seek re-election. Also Board Members Susan Vierkandt and Chris Maddox did not seek re-election.
