HOUSTON COUNTY:    Houston County School Superintendent David Sewell and Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza wish to make everyone aware that Houston County Schools start today.

Supt. Sewell and Sheriff Valenza wish to remind everyone that School Buses are running their routes. The stop arm means STOP. Do not pass a stopped school bus with the STOP arm deployed and lights on the bus flashing. Children are crossing the roads from homes to enter into and exit from the school bus. This is morning and afternoon.

Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza, personally, and members of the Sheriff Department will be on the roads watching and on the school grounds watching making sure day 1 of the school year goes well. ALEA - Trooper Captain Tracy Nelson said ALEA - Troopers are watching and patrolling making sure that people obey all traffic laws, most especially to stopping for school buses as they pickup and drop off children.

Children, sorry, but summer is over.

Supt. Sewell, Sheriff Valenza, School Resource Supervisor Sgt. Bobby Hopkins wishes all of the students and faculty a great first day and the rest of the year.

Thanks to the Houston County School Board and Houston County Commission in the funding of additional officers to be on the campus of the Houston County Schools. Sheriff Valenza said Sgt. Bobby Hopkins is the supervisor of the School Resource Officers and does a great job.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE

Grandson Brantley Bradley officially begins First Grade at Cottonwood this morning. The other day when I asked him was he excited he said NO. I said boy, you have 12 years of school then college ahead of you. Better get excited.

We join Brantley's parents, Emily and Step Dad Josh, his daddy Mike, and grandparents from all directions in wishing Brantley well has he begins his adventures. Can not believe in September he turns 7 years old.
