HOUSTON COUNTY: Houston County Commission Chairman Brandon Shoupe and members of the Houston County Commission met in their first meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The next meeting will be November 28. The Administrative Meeting will be a 9 AM and a 10 AM Commission Meeting.

Chairman Shoupe commended the Dothan Police Department and Houston County Sheriff Deputies on their swift action on the unfortuante incident of the shooting at the National Peanut Festival Parade.

Chairman Brandon Shoupe welcome newly elected Alabama State Representative Rick Rehm at the meeting.

CONSENT AGENDA

The first item on the agenda was approval of re-paving of several roads. The re-surfacing will be Bethel Road from Broad Street to U.S. Hwy. 431. The commission also approved the re-surfacing of Ashford Road from Enon Road to Ben Ivey Road. The commission also approved the re-surfacing of Hosea Road from Geneva County line to Alabama Highway 605. The Commission approved the re-surfacing of Roney Road from U.S. Hwy. 431 to Walden Drive. The commission approved the re-surfacing of Cowarts Creek Road and Broad Street from Lucy Grade Road to U.S. Hwy. 84 East.

Chairman Shoupe announced meeting rules however Alabama State Law says there can not be a meeting until the Wednesday after the election so this is the first meeting. Chairman Shoupe said any questions to ask them.

REGULAR COMMISSION AGENDA

The Commission set Regular Meetings 2nd and 4th Monday's of each month at 10:00 AM.

The Commission has to approve Rules of Procedure for commission meetings and Administrative Meetings. Chairman Shoupe sent the rules out over the weekends to the commission. Shoupe said the only minor item was changing people coming on Monday to speak on every item. Shoupe said with this change people can sign up one hour before the meeting to speak on items on the agenda.

At Administrative Meetings have to sign up on Wednesday before the Thursday meeeting.

Houston County is one of the purchasing agents for items for the Alabama Association of County Commissioners. Today the commission is setting bids for heavy equipment.

The Houston County Commission approved the Dollar General, 211 West Church Street in Columbia for Retail Beer License and Retail Table Wine, off premise only.

The Houston County Commission authorized a public hearing on November 28 to approve the expenditure of funds for publication and authorize publication notice of public meeting on November 28, 2022, pursuant to Alabama Constitutional Amendment 772. This will be to spend funds on the SARCOA ( Southeast Alabama Regional Council on Aging ) building on Highway 605.

The Houston County Commission approved preliminary plat for Fieldstone Subdivison.

STAFF REPORTS - None

COUNTY ENGINEER - Taylor Road will be closed for a week to replace a cross drain.
