THE MECK Broke The News - Mike Schmitz Will Not Seek Re-Election As School Board Chairman

DOTHAN:    David Meckley of The Meck Blogspot has broke the news first that Dothan School Board Chairman Mike Schmitz will not seek re-election as Chairman of Dothan City School Board.

Chairman Mike Schmitz is quoted as saying " I am incredibly honored to have served alongside the teachers, faculty and staff of Dothan City Schools. They all are real heroes". 

Chairman Schmitz also praised the local students ( and families ) as they adapted to change. " Despite uncertainty, obstacles, and challenges, they all persevered and succeeded. They each are a vital part of the many great things going on in Dothan City Schools", Chairman Schmitz said.

Mike Schmitz served Dothan as Mayor for eight years. not seeking re-election as Mayor, Mike Schmitz ran a very successful campaign and was elected as Chairman of Dothan School Board.

As with everything Mike Schmitz does, he rolls up his sleeves and gives it more than 1 million percent of his effort. In the middle of the progress Mike Schmitz was attempting to make in the Dothan City Schools, COVID struck and changed the entire world. 

And COVID changed some of the plans, paths and ideas to make Dothan City Schools the premier education facility in Southeast Alabama.

With those challenges came a change in Dothan School Superintendents. Chairman Schmitz and the members of the Dothan City School Board hired Dennis Coe. He has helped Chairman Schmitz and the School Board bring stability to the school system and helped steer the path back to the vision of 2017 when Schmitz took over as Chairman.

During Mike Schmitz tenure as School Board Chairman came a medical issue and Chairman Schmitz underwent open heart surgery. A temporary set back for Chairman Schmitz. But if you really know Mike Schmitz, while it slowed him for a period of time it was not long until GO! GO! Go! once again.

THANK YOU MIKE SCHMITZ for the fact that you LOVE DOTHAN, LOVE THE WIREGRASS, and LOVE THE CHILDREN and want to give them every opportunity known to succeed. 

THANK YOU MIKE SCHMITZ for taking the time to work hard at a job that you received more people being critical than complimenting. Knowing your heart and passion, it was all to make the kids of today have the education to do anything they wanted in life. Very few will ever step up to the plate to make hard decisions for others to benefit. You did and thank you.
