Traffic Stop Lands Alabama Couple in Jail

BONIFAY - On January 18th, an HCSO deputy and an officer with the Bonifay Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 79. Contact was made with the driver, Michael Evans, and passenger Rhonda Evans, both of Elba, AL. Neither individual possesses a valid driver’s license.
During the traffic stop, K9 Lasso conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle and gave a positive alert to the presence of illegal narcotics. A probable cause search produced a cut straw containing methamphetamine residue near the passenger seat, another near the driver’s seat, and a prescription pill also near the driver’s seat.
Michael Evans was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a schedule 2 controlled substance. Rhonda Evans was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Upon arrival at the Holmes County Jail, an additional cut straw and a small container of methamphetamine were discovered in the back seat of the patrol vehicle where Mr. Evans was sitting. Evans claimed ownership of the items and was additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine.
