Traffic Stop Lands Two in Jail for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell

JACKSON COUNTY:On Saturday, May 20, around 5 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop at the corner of Highway 231 and Highway 90 in Cottondale. When deputies made contact with the driver, they smelled the odor of burnt Marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Deputies also discovered that the driver, Damon Jackson, does not have a valid driver’s license.

Due to the strong smell of burnt marijuana, both the passenger and driver were asked to step out of the vehicle. K-9 Dutch was deployed and alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. Deputies found about 4.5 ounces of marijuana in an open bag under the passenger seat where Martin Salazar was sitting.  Another 1.5 ounces was found in Salazar’s front pocket. Deputies also located a single Percocet 10 mg pressed pill and a baggie containing a brown powder substance, which deputies believe to be Fentanyl. The substance was sent to a lab for identification.

Jackson was arrested and is being charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Violation of Probation and Driving while License Suspended or Revoked. Salazar was arrested and is being charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Medication without a Prescription
