TROY, ALABAMA: The Troy Police Department gave reminders regarding the upcoming hunting season. They wanted to remind everyone to be safe and aware of their surroundings when "in the woods" during this new hunting season about to be in full swing.
They reminded people of the Alabama Sportsman's Pledge which is the following:
I pledge to conduct myself as a true sportsman and will always:
1. Treat every gun with the respect due a loaded gun
2. Always point my gun in a safe direction
3. Be sure of my target before I shoot
4. Never put a loaded gun in or on an automobile
5. Always respect the landowner and his/her property and be considerate of other humans.
The also gave the following reminders:
-Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot.
-Wear a blaze orange cap or vest.
-Usa a small flashlight during dim light conditions to identify yourself as a human being.
-Always keep your safety on until you are ready to shoot.
-Respect the landowner and his/her property.
-Show respect to other hunters and nonhunters.
-Give respect to the wildlife and its habitat.
-FOLLOW ALL STATE LAWS AND REGULATIONS!
-Use equipment adequate for the game being hunted and be proficient with that equipment.
