DOTHAN:     11:14 PM    Dothan 911 dispatched a firearm assault in the 2700 block of Cottonwood Road.

Reports of a female with a gunshot wound relayed by a party not on the scene.

Dothan Police, Dothan Fire Engine 4 ( Southside ), Pilcher Ambulance responded.

A suspect description was broadcast to responding units.

While some units reported to the scene others units spread the area while responding to the scene. In the 1900 block of Cottonwood Road a suspect was encountered that matched the description of the suspect. Dothan Police Patrol units are on the scene in the 1900 block of Cottonwood Road with the possible suspect. The suspect was on foot.

Dothan Police Patrol have called for Criminal Investigators to respond to the scene.

Quick and accurate information from the Dothan 911 dispatchers to responding units aided in quick apprehension of a possible suspect.

At the time this firearm assault was posted RSN was aware this is a murder case. The victim, reported as a female, was deceased on the scene.

RSN reported just as a firearm assault until law enforcement had time to get criminal investigators on the scene and family was beginning to be notified.

BECAUSE of an alert Dothan 911 staff, highly trained and on top of their jobs, obtaining quick and accurate information and broadcasting that information to responding law enforcement officers, a person of interest was spotted and taken into custody.

The scene is in the 2700 block of Cottonwood Road at Loraine Road. The suspect was apprehended by Dothan Police Patrol north of Watkins Road and Cottonwood Road in about the 1900 block of Cottonwood Road.

Dothan Police Criminal Investigators and Crime Scene Investigators are on the scene. The person of interest has been transported by Dothan Police Patrol to Criminal Investigation Division.

Dothan Police Chief Will Benny and Dothan Police Major Will Glover have said criminal investigators are working the crime scene and details and no more additional information is available until the investigators are able to put all of the details together.

Both Chief Benny and Major Glover are proud of the 911 staff, responding Police, Fire and EMS for their quick response, quick information and that information being broadcast quickly.
